Slovensky Kopov (Chien courant slovaque) has origins that are lost in time, and unfortunately, completely unknown. The official recognition of the breed took place only after the Second World War, but the breed had already existed for centuries.

General aspect

Medium-sized dog, with solid bone structure and rather light conformation. This breed is known for its extraordinary sense of orientation, which has been considered the best of all dog breeds.


Hound known for his constancy in following the fresh track or a track, even for several hours. It is mainly used in hunting wild boar and carnivores. This dog is also trained as a guard and defense dog, with excellent results. Equipped with a lively temperament. In the presence of the family he lives with, he proves friendly and calm. He is a dog who cannot live in an apartment.

- males between 45 and 50 cm
- females between 40 and 45 cm.

Trunk: its trunk is quite light, but very well proportioned and with fair relationships. The body has the shape of an elongated rectangle.
Head and muzzle: its head is typically a hound. Snout wide enough and broad skull. Tense lips.
Truffle: black in color, with nostrils well open.
Teeth: its teeth are strong and correct.
Neck: its neck is robust.
Ears: attached slightly below the eye line. Of medium length, they are rounded at their ends and falling flat against the head.
Eyes: dark, well embedded in the orbits, they reflect liveliness and courage. They are almond-shaped.
Limbs: perfectly perpendicular. Straight and strong. Musculature very evident and strong.
Shoulder: with right inclination.
Musculature: excellent development.
Tail: it is a saber; it is long up to the hock.
Skin: elastic and soft.
Hair: 2 to 5 cm long, medium thickness, well laid down, dense. It is a little longer on the back, neck and tail. The undercoat is dense, especially in winter; it must not become less thick in the summer.
Allowed colors: black with spots ranging from brown to acajou on the lips, cheeks, throat, chest, eyes and paws.
Most common defects: prognathism, enognatism, monorchidism, cryptorchidism, colors not allowed by the standard, non-standard sizes, white spots, badly worn ears, limbs not perpendicular, left-handedness, defective rear, incorrect gait, too loose skin, light eye, depigmented truffle, tail worn bad, shy character.
