Description

Mount Fenera (899 m) is a characteristic limestone relief located between the Sesia and Agogna valleys. Its steep western slope dominates the hamlet of Borgosesia. The territory is mostly covered by woods, there are also areas cultivated with orchards, vineyards and areas of wooded heath, which have developed at the limits of the Park.
The presence of the many streams and the varied exposure of the slopes have led to the formation of a considerable variety of plants and arboreal essences, even rare. The park is home to various species of birds, including the Peregrine Falcon, the Rondine montana and the Woodpecker and mammals such as the Roe Deer and the Hare, who use crops to graze.
Between the walls there are caves and cavities of considerable speleological and archaeological interest. Inside they were found remains of prehistoric fauna (cave bear and rhinoceros) and evidence of the ancient presence of man (by the man of Neardertal). There are also remains from later periods, up to the Roman and medieval periods. Characteristic are the taragn, rural buildings with thatched roofs. The naturalistic interest is also remarkable, with over 30 exclusive plant species of Monte Fenera, 16 of ferns and the presence of the black stork (Ciconia nigra) which, for the first time in centuries, has returned to reproduce in Italy in the Monte Fenera area.
