The Monte Genzana and Alto Gizio Nature Reserve covers an area of ​​3,160 hectares and falls entirely within the territory of the Municipality of Pettorano sul Gizio (AQ).

Description

The territory of the Reserve, between 530 m a.s.l. of the river Gizio and the 2,170 m s.l.m. del Monte Genzana, is made up of very different natural environments which preserve a high flora and fauna heritage.
Inside we find the river environments of the Gizio river and the Riaccio stream, the mixed woods dominated by downy oaks and hornbeams of the hilly plain, the beech woods, often accompanied by yews and maples, of the mountain plain, the prostrate shrubs of the subalpine plain and the alpine meadows. The fauna is very rich and interesting; among the mammals we find the bear, the wolf, the deer, the deer, the wild boar, the fox, the marten, the badger, the marten, the dormouse, the hare and the squirrel; among the birds, the eagle, the peregrine falcon, the honey buzzard, the lodolaio, lastore, the buzzard and the partridge.
A particularity of the Reserve is the presence of the historic center of the inhabited area of ​​Pettorano sul Gizio within the protected area.
